Manchester United have made their plans on Mason Greenwood’s potential return to the club very clear as the left-footed forward has been playing fantastically with the Spanish club Getafe, which he joined on deadline day in September, reported Talk Sport on Friday.

Greenwood joined the Spanish club on a loan deal with Man United paying his salary till the end of the season. He has netted five goals and provided four assists in 15 matches with his new club.

However, despite making a great return to the field after not being allowed to play for more than 18 months, the 20-time Premier League (PL) champions have no intentions of bringing the English international back to the club, added the report.

Greenwood’s contract with United ends in June 2025 and the most possible outcome is that the 22-year-old will end up joining a top club, if there’s any interest shown, on a free deal.

It must be noted that United confirmed in August that Greenwood will not be continuing his career with them after a six-and-a-half-month investigation.

Even though the English club gave a clean chit to the player after their investigation, the internal conflict and the backlash from the fans forced the club to part ways with the 22-year-old.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape after his then-girlfriend Harriet Robson posted her pictures and an audio file on social media.

The footballer was then immediately suspended from training and matches by the club and last played for The Red Devils against West Ham in January 2022.

Nike suspended and later terminated its sponsorship deal with the player, while Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on its FIFA 22 game following his arrest.

But in February 2023, charges of attempted rape and assault against Mason Greenwood were dropped by the prosecutor.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light were factors in their decision to stop the case against the 22-year-old.
