The much-anticipated Boxing Day Test between India and Australia is set to make history, as all tickets for the first day of the match have already sold out.
Cricket Australia confirmed the news, signaling high demand for this marquee clash.
This Boxing Day Test, which is the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on December 26.
For the first time ever, a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test will witness a crowd of over 86,000 spectators, setting a record-breaking turnout that is expected to surpass the usual numbers seen in past Boxing Day Tests, excluding the Ashes series.
The MCG, with a seating capacity of nearly 100,000, will host this historic event, which is sure to generate intense competition and atmosphere as two cricketing giants, India and Australia, battle it out on the field.
The ongoing series has generated immense ticket demand from both fanbases. The second Test at the Adelaide Oval saw an attendance of over 36,000 on the first day, setting a new 12-year record for the venue.
Attendance milestones were further broken, with 50,186 spectators on Day One and 51,642 on Day Two.
Similarly, the opening two days at Optus Stadium set new records for Test match attendance in the city, with 31,302 on Day One and 32,368 on Day Two.
The match, which lasted four days, drew a total of 96,463 spectators, marking the second-highest attendance ever in Perth and the highest at Perth Stadium.
It is pertinent to mention that the five-match Test series between India and Australia is currently tied at 1-1.
The visitors, under the captaincy of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, won the opening clash in Perth by a massive 295 runs.
The Cummins-led Australian side made a huge comeback, winning the second Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets, with the match concluding within three days.
