This week's special "New Year's Revolution" episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Vancouver mainly revolved around the evening's main event - a triple threat match featuring Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and LA Knight.
The purpose was to determine the next top contender for Roman Reigns' WWE Universal championship.
The victorious contender would earn the opportunity to face Reigns at the upcoming Royal Rumble premium live event scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
However, the triple threat match, showcasing all three as credible contenders, did not have a definitive conclusion. The bout was interrupted by Reigns and The Bloodline, leading to a chaotic scene. Following their interference, Nick Aldis discussed the Fatal 4-Way plan with Paul Heyman.
The updated Royal Rumble lineup:
Men’s Royal Rumble
Women’s Royal Rumble
WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. LA Knight vs. AJ Styles
United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Earlier, it was speculated that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may end up facing The Tribal Chief after his surprise entry to the WWE universe.
The Rock appeared during Jinder Mahal’s speech and as soon as he entered the ring, he took out Mahal with his trademark “People’s Elbow” and began to speak.
That was The Rock’s first appearance in WWE since September 2023.
"I'm gonna go get something to eat," he said. "When The Rock goes out to get something to eat tonight, in San Diego, should The Rock sit in a booth, or should The Rock sit at the bar?
"Or, should The Rock sit at the head of the table?," he said as the crowd erupted.
The mention of “the head of the table” was directed towards Reigns who has been holding the Universal title for over 1000 days now.
