Mauricio Pochettino is facing mounting pressure from the Chelsea hierarchy after the Blues plummeted to 11th place in the Premier League after a dismal 4-2 defeat to Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The final whistle was met with a chorus of boos from the disgruntled home crowd, who began leaving well before the defeat was confirmed in the capital.
Throughout the game against Wolves, chants for former manager Jose Mourinho and former owner Roman Abramovich were audible as supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the club's current situation.
Despite their league struggles, Chelsea are set to compete in the Carabao Cup final against title-chasing Liverpool later this month.
They also have an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday, followed by challenging away fixtures against Crystal Palace and Manchester City.
“I think we are all not good enough at the moment, that’s the reality,” said Pochettino after the defeat to Wolves. “Myself also. I’m the first responsible for the situation. What we were showing today was that we are not good enough. I agree 100 percent.
“We didn’t manage the situation properly. No one can be safe. I don’t want to come here and say I am the best and the players the worst. I think we are all responsible. But the players need to take responsibility also.
“At the moment we are not matching the history of the club. We need to accept that and to be critical but we cannot give up.”
Pressure from the fanbase continues to intensify with each passing game, and the Blues face a tough schedule in February and March. However, for the time being, Pochettino's position at Stamford Bridge remains secure.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with Pochettino midway through the season. It's reported that there is 'no sense of panic'.
However, the 51-year-old is 'under pressure to enhance the club's form and results for the remainder of the season'.
It is noted that Pochettino will face an uphill battle to keep his job if Chelsea fail to qualify for any European competition. Winning the Carabao Cup would secure them a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League Play-Off for the 2024-25 season.
Pochettino is "under pressure to convince" the Chelsea hierarchy, with many supporters already running out of patience.
