FC Barcelona have removed former right-back and legend Dani Alves from their honour list following a rape conviction, reported Spanish news outlet SPORT on Tuesday.
The decision comes from the La Liga giants following the court's final ruling. Last week, a Spanish court convicted Alves of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
The court handed down a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence to the Brazilian defender. Additionally, according to BBC reports, the former Barcelona star was ordered to pay €150,000 (£128,500) in damages to the victim.
In light of this verdict, Barcelona has stripped Alves of his status as a club legend.
The Brazilian footballer was previously included in the list of legends, which comprises 102 players who have represented Blaugrana, including renowned figures like Joan Gamper and Lionel Messi. Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Gerard Pique, who departed the La Liga giants last season, are the most recent additions to the list.
It is worth noting that Alves has been in prison in Spain without bail since January 2023 and the defender has denied any wrongdoings and claimed that what happened with the victim was consensual after initially denying any interaction with her.
Throughout his two spells at the club, Alves amassed a total of 408 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 22 goals and providing 105 assists.
Remember, Alves is one of the most decorated footballers of all time with 42 titles to his name which includes six La Liga, five Spanish Super Cups, five Copa del Ray, four UEFA Super Cups, three UEFA Champions League and many other trophies.
He also won two FIFA Confederations Cup and Copa America titles with Brazil.
In his 21-year-long career, Alves represented big teams like Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, AS Monaco, and Juventus. He played a total of 869 games and scored 61 goals while providing 178 assists from the right flank.
