The salaries of the highest-paid players in Europe have been revealed with a surprise name emerging from La Liga.
As per the French publication L’Equipe, Real Madrid defender David Alaba is the highest-paid player, earning more than the likes of Robert Lewandowski (second), Vinicius Junior (third) and Jude Bellingham (fourth).
The Austrian defender, who arrived on free from Bayern Munich earns €1.88m per month.
Lewandowski makes €1.87m per month. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham rank third and fourth, both earning €1.67m, while Ilkay Gundogan of Barcelona rounds out the top five, also on the same wages.
It equates to about €20m per year. The best-paid Atletico Madrid player is goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who is also on the same deal.
Alaba joined Real Madrid in 2022. But his time at the Bernabeu has been marred by injuries, which has led to question marks over his future.
Real Madrid’s salary structure is set for a major shuffle in the coming summer, especially with Kylian Mbappe joining the team.
The Frenchman will not be able to earn the €6 million per month salary at Real Madrid. But he will earn a hefty package – reportedly the same as Jude Bellingham and Vinicius.
As for Alaba, his future at Bernabeu remains uncertain. The Austrian is still out injured and won’t be returning to action anytime soon. This might just make things more difficult for Real Madrid to find a suitor for him this summer.
Meanwhile, Mbappe is the best-paid player in Europe, earning €6m per month (€78m per annum). Elsewhere Kevin de Bruyne earns the most in the Premier League, at €2.02m per month, Harry Kane earns a little over that at €2.1m, and in Italy, it is Victor Osimhen with €1.5m
