Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi presided over the 76th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) at a local hotel in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Key developments regarding Pakistan’s hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 were discussed.
Naqvi briefed the members on the latest updates surrounding the much-anticipated event, confirming that Pakistan is on track to host the prestigious tournament.
He reaffirmed PCB’s firm stance on holding the tournament on home soil, with the Board members expressing full confidence in his leadership.
"I have always advocated for Pakistan and cricket’s success since day one," said Naqvi, underscoring PCB's readiness and commitment to organizing the Champions Trophy.
"This is a matter of national honor, and we will not let it be compromised," he added.
The Chairman also emphasized the importance of maintaining cricket’s apolitical nature, stating that the sport is beloved by millions and should not be tainted by politics.
The meeting also covered the ongoing stadium upgrades in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi to ensure they meet the international standards required for the upcoming mega event.
Members were pleased with the progress and expressed their satisfaction with the work being carried out.
Additionally, the BoG members expressed their delight over the ongoing Champions T20 Cup, currently being held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Earlier this year, the PCB also successfully hosted the Champions One-Day Cup in Faisalabad.
It is pertinent to mention that the ICC formally approved the ‘fusion formula’ proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 and upcoming events hosted by either country, reports claimed.
According to Indian media, the decision was made during an unofficial meeting of the apex cricket governing body.
As a result, India will now play their matches in the eight-team tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In return, the green shirts will not travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, and their matches will take place in Sri Lanka – the co-host of the tournament – including the blockbuster Indo-Pak clash.
