India’s pace sensation Mayank Yadav could miss the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after suffering an injury during the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
That was Yadav’s second injury breakdown in just one month after he emerged as one of the fastest bowlers in the league. However, despite a potential setback, he got a silver lining as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to reward him with a pace bowling contract.
The likes of Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal and Akash Deep will also be rewarded by the BCCI.
Once he has been given the contract, Yadav will be supervised by NCA’s Sports Science and Medical team and his future injuries will also be dealt with by them as well.
Participating in his fourth match of the season, Mayank reappeared in the LSG playing XI after a prolonged abdominal strain.
He bowled 19 deliveries in the match against Mumbai Indians and claimed a wicket off the first ball of his last over, dismissing Mohammad Nabi, but subsequently left the field accompanied by the physio.
It was revealed today that he has a grade 1 tear which makes him a doubt for the remainder of the campaign.
“Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games,” a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, Yadav clocked 156.7kph during the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) which was the fastest delivery in the ongoing edition and overall the fourth fastest in the history of the entire tournament, breaking his own record made during the Punjab Kings match which was his debut, where he clocked 155.8kmph.
