GHOTKI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Chairman Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan on Sunday at Sardar Garh.

The meeting was done to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral ties and promoting cricket between Pakistan and the UAE.

During the meeting, Naqvi extended a warm welcome to the UAE official, stating, “Your visit to Pakistan is a matter of honor for us.”

He further lauded the UAE leadership for its unwavering support for Pakistan, emphasizing the longstanding relationship between the two nations.

The dialogue focused on fostering the growth and development of cricket, with both officials agreeing to collaborate on initiatives that would benefit the sport.

“We will work closely with the UAE to promote cricket,” Naqvi affirmed.

Naqvi also invited Sheikh Nahyan to attend matches of the Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan during the February-March window next year.

In response, Sheikh Nahyan conveyed his best wishes for the successful hosting of the prestigious tournament, highlighting the UAE's strong ties with Pakistan.

“We value our relationship with Pakistan and wish you great success with the Champions Trophy,” said Sheikh Nahyan.

Reflecting on the significance of hosting the multi-nation event, Naqvi expressed enthusiasm, promising to make the tournament a memorable one.

“There is immense excitement in Pakistan about hosting the Champions Trophy. We aim to make it an outstanding and unique tournament,” he stated.

It is pertinent to mention that the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 will be played across hosts Pakistan and neutral venue, confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday.

This decision is part of a broader arrangement where matches between India and Pakistan at ICC events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at neutral locations, ensuring logistical and security feasibility.

The ‘fusion formula’ will apply to major ICC tournaments after Champions Trophy, including the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (to be hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka).

Under this formula, the knockout stage matches, including the final, will be played at neutral venue if India and Pakistan qualify.

The PCB has also been awarded hosting rights for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028.
