The 2023 World Cup has seen a fair share of surprises, with the Netherlands defeating South Africa and Afghanistan getting the better of the defending champions, England

Indian batter Virat Kohli believes that when attention is solely on the so-called major teams, an upset is inevitable.

“There are no big teams in the World Cup. Whenever you start focusing only on bigger teams, an upset happens,” Kohli said in an interview with Star Sports ahead of India’s match against Bangladesh on Thursday.

India will face Bangladesh on October 19. Rohit Sharma and Co. are coming into this encounter with an unblemished record in this World Cup, winning all three of their last three matches.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, have played three and won one, losing against New Zealand and England with the sole victory coming against Afghanistan.

Speaking further about the threat posed by Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al-Hasan, Kohli said, “Over the years, I’ve played a lot against him (Shakib). He’s got amazing control. He’s a very experienced bowler. He bowls very well with the new ball, knows how to deceive the batsman, and is also very economical.”

Meanwhile, Shakib said that Kohli was a very special batter and he’ll be looking to take his wicket in the upcoming match, “He’s a special batsman, probably the best batsman in the modern era. I think I’m lucky to get him out 5 times. Of course, it will give me great pleasure, taking his wicket.”

Both players will be in action next in Pune when India takes on Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday.
