Real Madrid made contact with Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi as Los Blancos continue their hunt for a new head coach for the upcoming season, reported Spanish news outlet Sport on Tuesday.
Current head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s contract ends at the end of the season and Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has decided not to renew it with the Italian heading to Brazil anyway.
Madrid’s squad consist of young players mostly with Brazil’s prodigy Endrick Felipe becoming the latest addition next summer and Perez wants to hire a manager who can coach those talents to their maximum potential.
Perez believes that De Zerbi possesses all the qualities to develop the young core of Madrid and he has shown with his work with Brighton that he is set to embark on a journey with a club to compete for titles as big as the UEFA Champions League.
Real Madrid will have Endrick as a new signing next summer and according to some reports, Perez still hasn’t given up on his dream of seeing Kylian Mbappe in Madrid’s royal white. Apart from those two, the club is also targeting Bayern Munich’s left-back Alphonso Davies.
With all the youngsters Madrid have, De Zerbi sure stands out as the man to lead Los Blancos’ next generation who have the potential to serve the club for the next 7-8 years.
Madrid’s former player and head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso, is another manager on top of the list to take over Ancelotti as the new coach next summer but no contact has been made with him as of now.
It must be noted that Alonso has turned Leverkusen into a force to reckon with as he has developed a consistent playing football for his side as in 17 games played this season, they are yet to taste a defeat.
Leverkusen have now won 16 out of 17 matches this season and they scored 59 goals and conceded only 14 in the process.
Alonso’s emergence as a top manager in such a short time has gathered interest from many top clubs but Madrid is in the front seat of getting his signature should they decide to go for him.
