India had to make alterations to their squad for the upcoming ODI and Test series against the Proteas, starting from December 26.

Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, initially selected for the Test squad, has now been sidelined due to fitness concerns after failing to gain clearance from the BCCI Medical Team.

Due to a family medical emergency, Deepak Chahar has withdrawn, leading India to name Akash Deep as his replacement in the squad.

Following the first ODI in Johannesburg on December 17, batter Shreyas Iyer will join the Test squad in preparation for the Test series. He will skip the second and third ODIs to concentrate on participating in the inter-squad game.

The coaching staff, including head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T. Dilip, will continue with the Test squad to oversee their preparations for the remainder of the tour.

India aim to maintain their winning streak after stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav's influential leadership secured a comprehensive victory in the second T20I in Johannesburg.

The two teams are set for a three-match ODI series, followed by two critical Tests as part of the World Test Championship 2023-25.

India’s updated ODI squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Tilak Varma, Rajat Patidar, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer (first ODI only), KL Rahul (c)(wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep.

India's Test squad: Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Prasidh Krishna, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Rohit Sharma (c).
