The fight between Ian Garry and Geoff Neal will now take place at UFC 298 in Anaheim instead of March’s UFC 299 in Miami.
The development comes after UFC CEO Dana White initially announced the welterweight bout for UFC 299.
The clash between Garry (13-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) and Neal (15-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will be held on February 17 at Honda Center in Anaheim.
White announced the change of date Thursday on X, formerly Twitter, along with other fight announcements.
Garry was supposed to Vicente Luque on the UFC 296 main card this month, but he pulled out on Wednesday after falling ill with pneumonia. However, he now has a new date and opponent for his comeback only a few days later. The promotion didn’t reveal why they didn’t keep the booking with Luque.
Garry and Neal were set to fight at UFC 292 in August but the latter withdrew and was replaced by Neil Magny, whom Garry beat in convincing manner through a unanimous decision win. Before the event, Garry wore a t-shirt with the mugshot of Neal, leading to a storm online.
The Irishman is yet to lose in his MMA career and is considered as one of the most promising contenders at 170 pounds.
On the other hand, the experienced Neal is eager to make his mark once again as he last fought in March when he was defeated by Shavkat Rakhmonov. Prior to that, Neal clinched back-to-back wins over Luque and Santiago Ponzinibbio.
