Jordan Henderson is reportedly in discussions to embark on a loan spell with Italian powerhouse Juventus, seeking an early exit from his contentious transfer to Saudi Arabia.

The 33-year-old departed Liverpool for the Middle East merely six months ago, signing up with Al-Ettifaq, supported by Saudi's PIF. This move marked him as the most prominent player from the Premier League to make such a transition.

However, Henderson is reported to be experiencing discomfort in Saudi Arabia, grappling with the challenging weather conditions of heat and humidity.

Henderson had aspired to secure a comeback to the Premier League but has received minimal interest. However, Dutch giants Ajax have inquired about his availability.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus is now making efforts to sign Henderson and is in advanced discussions with the player and his representatives.

Juventus is aiming to arrange a loan rather than a transfer, a proposition that Al-Ettifaq is willing to consider. The Saudi league is cautious about obstructing the departure of discontented players, as it may adversely impact their efforts to attract players in the future.

The Old lady would not be charged any loan fee, and Henderson is hoping to secure an 18-month stay, covering the duration of his remaining contract with Al-Ettifaq.

He is also prepared to take a significant hit on the colossal salary package he currently receives, having been granted a £692,000-per-week deal by the Saudi side.

With the season already at its midway point, Juventus has proposed a salary of €2 million (£1.7 million) for the remainder of the campaign, equivalent to around £60,000 per week – essentially a 90 per cent pay reduction.

Henderson is prepared to endure setbacks to make a comeback in top-level football, with aspirations of securing a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the Euros through a potential move to Serie A.

Juve manager Max Allegri has already approved the signing, believing that Henderson would bring much-needed experience to the midfield.

This season, Henderson has made 17 appearances and contributed four assists in the Saudi Pro League. However, Al-Ettifaq has faced challenges, currently enduring a nine-game winless streak and holding the 8th position in the table, 28 points behind league leaders Al-Hilal.
