Germany's Thomas Muller has declared the current best striker on the planet, and it is none other than his Bayern Munich teammate Harry Kane.
The English international has made a remarkable impact in Germany since ending his long-standing association with the Premier League side Tottenham in the summer of 2023.
Kane has scored 26 goals for Bayern in just 23 appearances. Erling Haaland once enjoyed a similar scoring rate at Borussia Dortmund, also netting 52 goals in Manchester City’s Treble triumph last season, making them widely regarded as the cream of the crop among world football’s No.9s.
When asked to identify the best among them, Bayern stalwart Muller told Sport Bild why Kane has to be considered the top choice in his opinion.
"Who else does he have to compete with? Erling Haaland is also great, but they are different types of players. For me, Harry is right at the top of the current crop of strikers," Müller told.
"Harry is simply a footballer with every fiber of his body. He understands the game. Firstly, he knows where the dangerous areas are. Secondly, he immediately sees what the other player can do, where his strengths are. He doesn't just play balls from A to B, there's always an idea behind it," he added.
Kane has been setting records both on and off the pitch at Bayern, with Muller acknowledging that only a handful of players have made such a positive initial impact at the Allianz Arena. The World Cup winner further remarked.
"I don't know if any player has ever had a better start at a club than Harry. I'm not just talking about the raw numbers, but the impact he's already had on our team," said Müller.
"Harry Kane is a player you know is always going to be there - at the highest level. He scores a goal in almost every game - but even when he doesn't, he does his job".
Kane marked the beginning of the new year by scoring in Bayern's first game after the winter break against Hoffenheim. He has only been unsuccessful in finding the target in five of his appearances for the Bundesliga champions and is resolved to end his prolonged quest for significant silverware in 2024.
