Real Madrid provided an update about the injury to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on Wednesday.

In a brief statement, the Spanish giants said that the goalkeeper underwent successful surgery today for a tear in the internal meniscus of his right knee

“Courtois will begin his recovery process in the coming days,” the La Liga club added.

With the latest injury, Courtois is set to spend another two months on the sidelines as the Belgian’s current season is over without having played a single match.

Remember, Courtois suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear on his left knee in a training session at the beginning of the season after which he spent the last eight to nine months on the sidelines.

He was expected to be fit for the crucial phase of the season where Real Madrid will take on Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final.

The latest setback will surely affect Carlo Ancelotti, who was counting on the Belgian’s return as he is not just rated by the Italian but is also considered a leader inside the dressing room,

Andriy Lunin will continue being Madrid’s starting goalkeeper in Courtois’ injury as the Ukrainian won the favour of Ancelotti after being benched by Kepa Arrizabalaga earlier this season.
