Lucknow Super Giants climbed to fourth place on the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table after an exciting six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings, thanks to Marcus Stoinis' superb century at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Stoinis scored an unbeaten 124 off 63 balls, including 13 fours and 6 sixes, as LSG achieved the highest successful run-chase at this venue. The previous record was held by Shikhar Dhawan’s PBKS, who chased down 201 against CSK last year.
CSK dropped to fifth place in the table after their fourth loss. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in second place, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in third.
It's worth noting that CSK scored 210 runs in their 20 overs, thanks to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unbeaten 108 and a quick 66 by Shivam Dube. However, the visitors managed to chase down the target with Stoinis leading the charge.
RR, KKR, SRH, and LSG currently occupy the top four positions. The top four teams will qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. The top two teams will compete in the first Qualifier, with the winner advancing directly to the final.
The Eliminator match will be contested between the teams finishing third and fourth in the IPL 2024 standings. The winner of the Eliminator will face the losing team from Qualifier 1. The victor of Qualifier 2 will progress to the final, scheduled for May 26.
On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals will host Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
