Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant recently opened up on his feelings after he suffered a horrific car incident that changed his life saying that he was nervous about facing people on crutches at airports.

In December 2022, Pant’s car collided with a divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway which left him with multiple injuries. The left-handed batter had wounds on his feet, back, and head. He had two wounds on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe, as well as abrasions to his back.

He underwent a surgery and started walking 40 days after his accident. The accident was declared as “life-changing” by Pant.

Talking to Jio Cinema, the wicketkeeper revealed when you are recovering from injuries, people say a lot of things about you which is why self-confidence and belief are very important.

“Self-belief and self-confidence are very important while recovering from an injury because there are people saying all sorts of things around you, and you, as an individual, have to think about what’s good for you. The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I wasn’t even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me,” Pant said.

“The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I wasn’t even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me. I couldn’t even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered with unbearable pain. I couldn’t go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair."

However, after almost 1.5 years on the sidelines, Pant made his comeback on the field as he captained Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and also amassed 446 runs which earned him a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

“Now that I’m making a comeback in cricket, more than feeling pressure, I’m excited. I feel this is kind of a second life, so I’m excited but also nervous,” Pant said.
