Australian batter Steve Smith predicted the top scorer of the T20 World Cup 2024 which is currently being played in the United States and West Indies.
Smith, who was part of Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023, is commentating in the ongoing tournament. The legendary Aussie batter named India’s Virat Kohli to finish as the top run-getter of the mega event.
Kohli scored 741 runs in 15 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and finished as the tournament’s top scorer. His impressive form in the IPL makes India favourites to lift the title and many are counting on the 35-year-old to score the most runs in the World Cup.
“My top run-getter for this tournament will be Virat Kohli. He is coming off a terrific IPL and he is bringing in some great form and I think he will be the leading run-getter,” Smith said in a video shared by the ICC.
Meanwhile, former South Africa captain and one of the greatest openers of all time, Graeme Smith, stated that one of Jos Buttler or Kohli will score the most runs in the tournament.
“I am going with a top-order batter. Virat Kohli or Jos Buttler,” Graeme Smith said.
England will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on Tuesday against Scotland in Barbados while India will take on Ireland on Wednesday in New York.
It must be noted that 55 games will be played across nine different venues in the West Indies and the USA during the T20 World Cup.
The venues in West Indies are Kensington Oval, Barbados; Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad; Providence Stadium, Guyana; Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua; Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, St Lucia; Arnos Vale Stadium, St Vincent.
Meanwhile, three venues will hold the matches in the USA — Eisenhower Park, New York; Lauderhill, Florida; and Grand Prairie, Texas.
