Manchester City and FC Barcelona are set to engage in a transfer battle over the signing of Girona's Savio Moreira as the Brazilian emerged as one of the brightest young talents in the world this season.

Savio emerged as a standout performer in Girona's remarkable season, contributing with five goals and five assists at just 19 years old. The young talent, initially on loan from City Football Group partner Troyes, arrived after an unproductive stint with the French side and later PSV Eindhoven.

Despite initially low expectations, Savio became a highly coveted prospect in European football, gaining attention for his exceptional dribbling skills and speed that make him a formidable force on the field.

Barcelona expressed interest in Savio, with Sporting Director, Deco, actively pursuing the player to reinforce their left flank in the upcoming summer transfer window. Ongoing communications between the player's representatives and Deco indicate the club's serious intent.

However, securing a deal appears challenging, as Bundesliga and Premier League clubs are actively pursuing Savio with substantial financial offers. Despite these approaches, both Girona and the City Football Group have rejected them, committing to keeping Savio in Catalonia for the remainder of the season.

Manchester City is contemplating a permanent deal for Savio, aiming to secure his long-term future. The possibility of a January transfer to City could potentially thwart Barcelona's aspirations, especially if Savio becomes a key part of City's first team.

This situation could also pose a dilemma for Girona, as La Liga regulations stipulate that players can only be registered with a single team per season. This means that a transfer followed by a second loan, although not suggested, would not be a viable option.

Girona are currently second in La Liga with 45 points, the same as table toppers Real Madrid but they are below Los Blancos as they lost their home match 3-0 against The Whites.
