Hugo Lloris has revealed his departure from Tottenham Hotspur, marking the conclusion of an era at the Premier League club after an impressive career in North London.
Prior to losing his spot in the team in 2023, Lloris had been a central figure at Tottenham Hotspur. He served as a dependable goalkeeper during the initial years following Harry Redknapp's tenure and emerged as a key player under Mauricio Pochettino, guiding the team to the Champions League final.
"After 11 years, 361 games and 127 clean sheets, Hugo Lloris is leaving the Premier League," were the words written in the Premier League's own statement on X (formerly Twitter).
The ex-Spurs skipper, demoted to third preference this season following Guglielmo Vicario's arrival, is departing for Major League Soccer.
Lloris, aged 37, has agreed to a one-year deal with Los Angeles FC, which includes an option for an additional two years.
"Hugo is arguably the most successful goalkeeper of his generation and a great champion. We are incredibly excited that he has chosen LAFC for the next phase of his illustrious career," boasted John Thorrington, co-chairman of the reigning MLS runners-up.
How will Spurs commemorate Lloris' departure?
Tottenham, in the meantime, are gearing up to bid farewell to their captain with a grand celebration as they begin 2024.
"At half-time of the Bournemouth game we will all say thank you to Hugo Lloris together," the club posted.
"From the first moment I felt proud and privileged to represent this club," said Lloris.
However, a downside is that Lloris is left with the persistent disappointment of not having won any trophies with the North London club. He was on the losing side in two League Cup finals in 2015 and 2021, and he also lost the mentioned Champions League final against Liverpool.
