Indian Wells finalist Maria Sakkari eased past China's Yuan Yue 6-2 6-2 on Thursday to qualify for the third round of the Miami Open.

However, Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina was made to work hard by Danish qualifier Clara Tauson but she was able to win 3-6 7-5 6-4.

Sakkari, who lost to world number one Iga Swiatek in Sunday's final at Indian Wells, ensured that she didn’t fall at the first hurdle like her last two visits to Miami.

The 28-year-old was impressive on court as she broke her Chinese opponent five times in the 79-minute match.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Anhelina Kalinina saved match point and came back from a set down to beat Caroline Wozniacki 5-7 7-5 6-4 in a thrilling clash.

Kalinina will next face world number two Aryna Sabalenka or Paula Badosa.

The Hard Rock Stadium court will be the centre of attention for the first match on Friday as Sabalenka takes court for the first time since the death of her former boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov.

Brazilian 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia registered a tough 3-6 6-1 6-4 win to make her way through to the Miami third round for the fourth time.

Americans Madison Keys and qualifier Taylor Townsend also qualified for the third round.

Keys, who is yet to go past the quarter-finals in 12 previous attempts in Miami, triumphed over teenager Diana Shnaider 6-2 6-4 while Townsend defeated Belgian 25th seed Elise Mertens 6-2 6-2.
