Manchester United’s defender Lisandro Martinez could play in the Premier League match against Brentford FC on March 30 as the Red Devils continue to push for a top-four finish, confirmed head coach Erik Ten Hag on Friday.
Martinez got injured during a 3-0 win against West Ham United at Old Trafford on February 6 and was ultimately substituted in the 71st minute.
The Argentinian tried to play after sustaining the injury but he soon started struggling to walk as his injured knee couldn’t bear the weight. He then walked off the ground with the assistance of the team medical’s staff.
However, after more than 45 days on the sidelines, the Argentinian could be back in action as Ten Hag needs each and every one of his troops available to ensure a top-four finish.
"Yes, there is a chance [back in the squad]. We have missed him every game because he brings a composure in the team, a calmness in the team," Ten Hag told reporters when asked about a potential return for the defender.
"At the same time, a winning attitude and he can express this very clearly. He can transfer that into the team and that contributes a lot to our levels."
With 28 matches played this season, Man Utd sit in sixth position with 47 points, nine less than fourth-placed Aston Villa who have 56 points from 29 matches.
The Red Devils are also pursuing FA Cup glory, they will take on Coventry City in the semi-final after defeating Liverpool in a thrilling quarter-final which saw them winning 4-3 after extra time.
Other than Martinez, all of Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans, Casemiro and Harry Maguire may also feature in the weekend’s clash.
"There are players returning, they are back on the pitch they are back in team training. We have one more training now. But it is most likely that we have some players back in the squad," said Ten Hag on Friday.
