USA defeated Canada in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 by 7 wickets on June 1 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
USA were 42/2 while chasing a target of 195 and it was looking like they were going to lose their first ever T20 World Cup match that too at their home ground but Aaron Jones’ blistering knock of 94 not out saved and steered them towards victory.
Talking after the match in the post-match presentation ceremony, the USA captain Monank Patel warned cricket giants India and Pakistan that they will continue with the same brand of cricket.
“We played fearless cricket and will continue to do so in the upcoming matches. Whether it is India or Pakistan, our brand of cricket will not change,” Patel said.
He also expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in the opening game, applauding Jones for his fiery knock.
“We batted really well. Canada were ahead of us when we lost two wickets in our chase but Jones was unbelievable. We always knew he was talanted but he took it to another level in today’s game,” Monank said.
He then urged the fans to continue their support of the USA team and that it was good to see fans in the stadium during the match.
“It was good to see the fans coming to the stadium to support us. I hope they return in large numbers in our other matches,” he added.
USA is grouped with Canada, Pakistan, Ireland and India in Group A of the World Cup with their next match scheduled against Pakistan on June 6 in Dallas at the Grand Prairie Stadium.
