Former Pakistan women's team captain Javeria Khan has stated that men's team captain Babar Azam should not be made a scapegoat and responsible for the poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Her comments came after Pakistan were eliminated and failed to qualify for the Super 8. In her post on X (formerly Twitter), the 36-year-old wrote that Babar is the best player and he shouldn't be burdened with all the blame for the the poor performance.

"Babar Azam should not be made a scapegoat to hide the system's and team's faults. He is our best player. Burdening him with all the blame and relieving others is not right," she wrote.

Remember, Pakistan beat Ireland by three wickets in their last match of the T20 World Cup 2024 which was held at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on Sunday.

Pakistan's shock defeat to the USA and loss to India meant they were eliminated from the event before the Super 8.

The win against Ireland ensured that Pakistan finished third in Group A with two wins from four games.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam along with five other players have decided to extend their stay in the United States as the rest of the team prepares to leave for home.

Other than the captain, who will leave for Pakistan on June 22, players staying behind include Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan.

Amir will leave for England in a couple of days where is set to join the Derbyshire Country Cricket Club. Whereas, Coach Gary Kirsten will also be heading home after the team failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

The rest of the squad will depart from Miami at night today and will fly off to their respective cities on different flights via Dubai and reach Pakistan on the morning of June 19.

A very unprofessional comment from an ex captain trying to defend the current captain. It's always the captain who takes responsibility but unfortunately Babar didn't show the courage and character to do that and instead blamed the entire team. He doesn't deserve to be the captain.
