Michael Vaughan has shared various scenarios for Pakistan regarding their semi-final prospects in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Former England captain encouraged the fans to maintain faith in their team.

Notably, Pakistan's chances in the knockout stage have diminished significantly following New Zealand's victory over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

Pakistan still has an opportunity to conclude their campaign with 10 points, but their net run-rate is a cause for concern. To surpass the Kiwis, they require a substantial victory against England.

"Keep believing, Pakistan... You never know," Michael Vaughan expressed on X (formerly Twitter).

Remember, New Zealand's win against Sri Lanka on November 9 has made Pakistan's path to the World Cup semi-finals — which was already difficult — nearly impossible as they require a massive win over England in their last match.

If Pakistan bat first against England, they would have to beat them by 287 runs.

If Pakistan bowl first, they need to dismiss England for 50 runs and chase the target in two overs or 100 runs in three overs.

Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said in the pre-match press conference on Friday that they will play aggressively, but also take calculated risks.

"We would want to go all guns blazing but it will be done according to a plan. We have planned on how to play first 10 overs, then 20 over and build partnerships. I personally feel if Fakhar Zaman stays on the wicket for 20 or 30 overs, we would be able to achieve it. Then it would be followed up by Rizwan and Iftikhar."

In the ongoing tournament, Pakistan has secured victories in four matches and faced defeat in an equal number. The team led by Babar Azam experienced setbacks against India, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan, while they emerged triumphant against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.

England, meanwhile, also have a lot to play for as they have their 2025 Champions Trophy qualification on the line. The defending champions surged to the 7th spot from 10th in the points table after their 160-run win over the Netherlands.
