Real Madrid’s veteran midfielder Luka Modric is on the radar of Major League Soccer (MLS) and Saudi Pro League clubs as the Croatian’s current deal with Los Blancos is about to end in June 2024, reported Diario AS on Monday.
The club has decided to move on from the Croatian as they want the young core of Federico Valverde, Aurilien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Jude Bellingham to become starters.
While Modric has consistently resisted the idea of moving from the Spanish capital as he earned a renewal for one year in 2022 and 2023 courtesy of his fantastic performances, it might be time for the 38-year-old to make a decision on his future.
Modric received a whopping €200 million offer from the Gulf Country in the summer which he denied as he didn’t want to leave Los Blancos.
However, the Croatian might consider offers from MLS and Saudi Arabia this time as head coach Carlo Ancelotti has started to put faith in the youngsters and Modric’s role in the team has reduced to the bench.
Modric was struggling to get consistent playing time at the start of this season but Madrid’s ongoing injury crisis turned out to be a blessing for the Croatian as he has now started five of the last six league games.
Earlier, MARCA reported that Real Madrid wanted to extend Toni Kroos’ contract for one more year.
Kroos, 33, is still at the top of his game and the club doesn’t want to lose him especially since another veteran, Luka Modric, is likely to see his exit from the Spanish capital after 11 years filled with greatness and history.
The German has consistently repeated that he doesn’t intend to play football for long and would retire while he is still at his peak. Kroos, with six assists to his name, is the top-assister in La Liga and has shown no signs of decline.
Madrid would offer Kroos a new contract with their “eyes closed” due to his performances, experience, and mentality and one problem that stands in their way is that the German has not yet made any decision about his future, the report added.
