Spain qualified for the Olympics for the first time after bagging their spot at the Paris Games with a 3-0 home victory over the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the women's Nations League on Friday.

Jenni Hermoso and Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati notched up goals in the first half, along with a strike from Ona Batlle in the 77th minute, as the world champions roared to win in front of a record attendance for the Spanish women's team of 21,856 at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville.

A moment of silence was observed before kick-off in memory of the victims of a deadly fire in Valencia.

This is first important milestone for Spain since Montse Tome took charge in September following the kiss-gate involving Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales and Hermoso.

“I took charge in a difficult moment that nobody wanted and we took a step forward,” Tome said. “We are proud of the work we have done. This team deserves to play an Olympic Games after all the prior generations who fought for it and came up short.”

Elsewhere, France clinched a 2-1 home win over Germany in the other semi-final courtesy of a goal from Kadidiatou Diani and Sakina Karchaoui's penalty in the first half.

With the Games' hosts reaching the final, the second UEFA Olympic spot will be there for the taking in the third-place decider between Germany and the Netherlands on Wednesday.

France will Spain in the Nations League final on Wednesday as well.
