Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib was found breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct and has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee, along with one demerit point, during Bangladesh’s ICC T20 World Cup encounter against Nepal.
Tanzim had bowled a delivery in Nepal’s third over of the innings and approached made inappropriate physical contact with batter Rohit Paudel and acted aggressively towards him.
After the incident, the ICC found Tanzim guilty of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct which covers the inappropriate behaviour or physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or any other person during a game be it a spectator.
The charge was imposed by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski during the group stage encounter and was supported by third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.
Tanzim has admitted the charges and accepted the offence as well as the sanction imposed by the match referee Richie Richardson.
Tanzim took four wickets in the game against Nepal at the loss of seven runs. Taking his total tally of wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024 to nine wickets in four games. He took one wicket each against Sri Lanka and the Netherlands whereas the rest of his three wickets were against South Africa.
Bangladesh has progressed to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they won three of their four group games against Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal and only lost to South Africa despite Tanzim’s stellar bowling display.
Bangladesh, captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, will play against Australia on June 20, India on June 22 and Afghanistan on 24 in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Bangladesh will meet Australia and India in Antigua while they will face off against Afghanistan in St. Lucia.
