South Africa defeated England by seven runs in their second match of the Super 8 round in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Proteas were on the verge of losing the match as they had posted a target of 164 runs but England could only score 156 runs at the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

South Africa are yet to lose a game in the T20 World Cup having played six matches so far. They defeated Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal in the group stage of the event while they overcame USA in first match of Super 8.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s latest win against England has sparked discussions in the cricket fraternity as the Proteas are well known to crumble in important games of ICC tournaments.

However, former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja believes that this year could be of South Africa.

Raja, who is in the West Indies for the commentary duties stated, “We always talk about South Africa being the chokers but England was the one who choked," he said while talking a local channels’ sports show.

“I am feeling that just like Pakistan was a borderline case in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, reached the semi-finals then the final and won the title. For South Africa, this could be the T20 World Cup,” he added.

It must be noted South Africa have never won a World Cup event. The only ICC trophy they have won is the 1998 Champions Trophy [previously known as ICC Knockout]. So, if they manage to win this T20 World Cup, it will be their first ever World title.

South Africa still have not qualify for the semi-final and they have to play against West Indies on June 23 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
