Multan Sultans appoint Saqlain Mushtaq as spin bowling coach, team mentor

Former Pakistani cricketer and one of the greatest spinners of all time, Saqlain Mushtaq, has been appointed as the spin bowling coach and mentor of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans, the franchise announced on Saturday.

Mushtaq, who previously served the Pakistan cricket team as a head coach, will now serve as the mentor and will give his services to the spinners of the PSL winners.

Mushtaq, the inventor of Doosra, represented Pakistan in 218 international matches across two formats, Test and ODI, taking 496 wickets in the process, leaving his name in the history books of cricket.

Multan Sultans also announced Alex Hartley, a former English international and World Cup winner, as the assistant spin bowling coach. And now, Hartley, alongside Saqlain, is all set to lead the spin department of the 2021 PSL winners.

Earlier, Catherine Dalton was appointed as the fast-bowling coach for Multan Sultans.

At the age of 30, Dalton held the distinction of being the first female coach in the history of the PSL and the first female fast-bowling coach for a prominent men's team.

Dalton was born in England and obtained Irish citizenship in 2015, subsequently going on to represent Ireland in four ODIs and four T20Is. The 30-year-old has visited Pakistan on two prior occasions and worked with various fast bowlers, such as Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, and Arshad Iqbal, in addition to several Under-19 players.

Dalton, an ECB-certified Level 3 Advanced Coach, has previously occupied coaching roles at the national fast-bowling academy in the United Kingdom and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India.

Among her numerous assignments, she worked with Deepak Chahar. Additionally, Dalton served as the assistant head coach at the National Fast-Bowling Academy based in the UK, working in partnership with Ian Pont and Andre Nel.
