In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman of the Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, met with former Test cricketers to seek their invaluable advice on the player development process.
He met with former Test cricketers Aaqib Javed, Mohammad Yousuf, and Inzamam-ul-Haq, who currently serves as the chief selector for the PCB.
Zaka Ashraf's objective is to harness the insights and expertise of these cricketing legends, who have represented Pakistan in various capacities, to help nurture the next generation of cricketing talent.
Looking ahead, the Chairman Management Committee is also planning to engage with additional former players, which may include the likes of Umar Gul, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, and Saqlain Mushtaq. Their input and guidance will be crucial in shaping the development process of current players, with a specific focus on honing their skills as specialised batters, spinners, and fast bowlers.
Furthermore, the National Cricket Academy has outlined its plans to host a specialised camp that will bring together the top talent from the domestic circuit. This initiative aims to provide intensive training and coaching to these budding cricketers, preparing them for the challenging transition to the international stage. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket, ensuring that Pakistan continues to produce world-class cricketing talent.
Zaka Ashraf: “These players have served Pakistan at the highest stage and have a treasure of experience under their belts. We hope to utilise their expertise to help ensure our players are developed well in all aspects of the game. In this way, we hope we can produce players in all departments of the game that can serve Pakistan in the future.”
