Barcelona received an offer for La Masia graduate Alejandro Balde from a Premier League club, according to a report by journalist Gerard Romero, who is closely connected to the Catalan club.
The left-back emerged as a standout player last season but has since struggled to find his rhythm and form. Balde has not been in the best form this season and has been unable to replicate his performance from the previous one. His runs into the final third are more predictable, and his decision-making has deteriorated.
As a result, Xavi recently experimented with Joao Cancelo at left-back, and the Portuguese's performances in that position against Porto and Atletico Madrid inspired hope that this could be Barcelona's best XI.
However, this experiment came at the cost of Balde being benched, attracting interest from several European clubs.
Despite having star quality in their squad, Barcelona is highly unbalanced, with some positions having more depth than others. They urgently need to bolster their depth at left-back, defensive midfield, and right-back.
The club is financially constrained, and while they would be willing to sell players for a substantial offer, it's unlikely that they would part ways with one of their best La Masia products in recent years.
With Cancelo on loan and Sergi Roberto's contract set to expire in the summer, Barcelona could be left without any first-team fullbacks if they decide to sell Balde.
Additionally, the Spaniard has proven his quality for Barcelona, breaking out last season as a teenager. Despite inconsistent performances, his unique profile in the team and rarity in world football make him valuable.
Barcelona and Xavi would benefit in the mid to long term if Balde is properly polished and given the chances and time to flourish.
