ICC will continue to reveal shortlists of other categories over the next three days

Rachin Ravindra - ICC

ICC Awards 2023 will once more showcase the standout performers who excelled in the previous calendar year.

Shortlists will be unveiled over three days from today, encompassing nine of the 13 individual categories constituting the Awards programme.

Global cricket enthusiasts can contribute to the selection of the winners.

The initial two categories revealed by the ICC are Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year.

Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)

- 820 runs in ODI at an average of 41, with a strike rate of 108.03; 18 wickets at an average of 46.61, with an economy of 6.02

- 91 runs in T20I at an average of 18.20, with a strike rate of 133.82; 5 wickets at an average of 32.80, with an economy of 9.11

In the past year, New Zealand's "next player up" ethos faced trials, yet the Black Caps once again demonstrated the importance of their system, with Rachin Ravindra hitting his peak on the grandest stage.

Before 2023, while representing his country in other formats, it was in the ODI arena (where he debuted in March) that his abilities truly shone.

He displayed glimpses of his talent early on with a 49-run knock against Sri Lanka, also contributing with the ball by claiming consecutive three-wicket hauls against Pakistan and England, both away fixtures.

Following a fifty against England at Lord’s, Ravindra truly flourished in the World Cup. In the absence of Kane Williamson, the left-hander exhibited remarkable class and maturity beyond his years with an unbeaten 123 off 96 balls, igniting New Zealand's World Cup campaign.

Ravindra's 578 runs were the highest by a New Zealand player in the tournament, surpassed only by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Quinton de Kock.

Gerald Coetzee (South Africa)

- 10 Test wickets at an average of 21.70, with an economy of 3.87

- 31 ODI wickets at an average of 23.22, with an economy of 6.48

- 6 T20I wickets at an average of 23.33, with an economy of 10.50

The past year witnessed the Proteas in need of a new bowling spearhead, and Gerald Coetzee emerged, unfazed even under the pressures of competing in a Cricket World Cup.

Coetzee's performances on the global stage were the cherry on top of a prolific year. His consistency across all formats underscored his value: averaging two wickets per innings in Tests, a rate he improved upon in ODIs, and grabbing a wicket every 13 balls in T20Is.

Consistently clocking speeds exceeding 145 kph, Coetzee initially showcased his talent in Test cricket by grabbing three wickets on his debut against the West Indies in Centurion in February.

Before the Cricket World Cup 2023, South Africa seemed lacking in pace after Anrich Nortje's injury, but Coetzee's performance in the lead-up and during the tournament proved otherwise. Across the year, Coetzee claimed 31 wickets at an average of 23.22, only going wicketless twice in the format, both times against Australia in their preparatory series for the global tournament.

In four T20Is, Coetzee claimed six wickets in 13.2 overs, with a standout 3/32 performance against India in Gqeberha.

Dilshan Madushanka (Sri Lanka)

- 15 ODI wickets at an average of 24.06, with an economy of 6.09

- 12 T20I wickets at an average of 29.41, with an economy of 9.80

In a distinctive year for Sri Lankan cricket, confined to the Qualifier for a Cricket World Cup, the 23-year-old stood out as a bowling asset.

Had Dushmantha Chameera not suffered an injury during the qualifier, Madushanka might not have had the opportunity to truly showcase his talents. Stepping in as an injury replacement during the tournament, he certainly capitalised on the chance.

His prowess continued at the World Cup, claiming 11 wickets in his first four outings, including a 4/49 (9.4) against the Netherlands.

Finishing with 21 wickets at an average of 25 in the main tournament, Madushanka clinched a five-wicket haul against India and 3/69 (10) against Bangladesh. In T20Is, six of his twelve wickets came during the T20 Asia Cup, with an economy of 25.83.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

- 283 Test runs at an average of 70.75

- 430 T20I runs at an average of 33.07, with a strike rate of 159.25

The year 2023 presented opportunities for young talents to make their mark for India, and the now-22-year-old Jaiswal seized nearly every chance that came his way.

Jaiswal received his Test cap in the Caribbean in July, making the most of the opportunity by scoring a century while opening the batting in Dominica, earning the Player of the Match accolade. He followed this with scores of 57 and 38 in the second Test of the tour, including a half-century in an opening partnership of 139 with Rohit Sharma.

His T20I debut on the same tour initially faced a setback, but he bounced back with an unbeaten 84 from just 51 balls. He posted a clean century (100 off 49 balls) against Nepal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, along with half-centuries against Australia (53 off 25 balls) and 60 (41) against South Africa.
