Timo Werner is on the verge of a return to the Premier League, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly close to securing a loan deal for the RB Leipzig star, according to Sky Germany.

The potential move would be a half-season loan for the 57 times-capped Germany forward, who faced challenges during his two seasons with Chelsea.

While Werner was offered to Manchester United, Spurs appear to be at the forefront and are willing to cover his entire salary. The North London club is currently without Heung-min Son for up to a month, as the dynamic playmaker is representing South Korea at the AFC Asian Cup.

Werner was a prominent figure in the footballing world when he initially left RB Leipzig for London, scoring 28 Bundesliga goals in his last season before making a lucrative move to Chelsea.

His first season at Chelsea was a mix of ups and downs, contributing 12 goals and 15 assists in 52 games, including crucial moments like scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League and providing an assist against Man City in the FA Cup.

However, his second season saw a decline in form, prompting a return to Leipzig for less than half the initial price. Despite scoring 16 times in 40 games last year with six assists, Werner has faced limited opportunities this season, starting only two Bundesliga games and enduring two injury-related absences.

While covering his entire salary might raise eyebrows given Spurs' reputation, there seems to be little risk for Tottenham.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has a track record of achieving success with less talented players, and Werner's proficiency in passing and ball progression could be a significant asset. Even if he replicates just half of his pre-Chelsea form, it would be a positive outcome.

The potential partnership between Werner and Postecoglou could prove to be a winning combination for Spurs. While the deal is not finalized, it remains to be seen if Tottenham can successfully complete the move.
