Hawk-Eye confirmed to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that the decision to give Rilee Rossouw not out against Salman Ali Agha, in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United on Thursday, was a human error.
Hawk-Eye acknowledged that the system correctly tracked the delivery, showing the impact of the ball and the removal of the wicket as per the umpire's call. However, due to an operator error, incorrect ball tracking data was displayed.
"If everything had been done as expected, the correct ball tracking data would have been available shortly after the incorrect data," explained Hawk-Eye, expressing regret and disappointment.
Hawk-Eye is the only approved technology for ball tracking by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which was first tested in 2008 and has since been part of the DRS system.
Remember, During the Gladiators' chase, skipper Rossouw attempted a sweep shot off Agha Salman on the last ball of the 11th over. The left-handed batter missed the ball and hit his pad with umpires giving LBW.
However, the DRS technology during the review showed that the ball missed the stumps which overturned the decision as not out.
Islamabad's skipper Shadab Khan was left fuming after they lost by three wickets blaming this defeat on technology.
"I think technology was at fault for this loss. We were shown a different ball as to the review (the review of Rossouw)," he said.
"I bowled 4 overs as a leg spinner, it wasn't turning much. This one showed impact outside off and spinning away further. In a big tournament like this, there shouldn't be such mistakes," he added.
With the win, Gladiators registered their third win and became one of the only two teams to have a trio of victories with Multan Sultans in the PSL 9.
While chasing the target of 145, Gladiators had to toil hard to reach the finish line. On the back of skipper Rilee Rossouw's 34*, they chased down the total in the 19th over while Mohammad Amir chipped in with a valuable 11*.
For United, Naseem and Shadab took two wickets each while Hunain and Rumman took one wicket.
