Bayern Munich have identified former Real Madrid left-back Theo Hernandez as the potential replacement for Alphonso Davies who is expected to leave the club this summer, reported Sky Germany on Saturday.
Hernandez played for Madrid in the 2017/18 season after which he went to the Italian club AC Milan where he currently plays as a left-back and often as a left-wing back and has already represented the club in 152 matches.
Bayern have not yet made any contact with the Frenchman but only identified should Davies decide to leave the six-time Champions League winners.
Los Blancos are eager to strengthen the right and left-back positions and they see Davies as the primary option to rule Madrid’s left flank for the coming years.
Dani Carvajal, who turned 32 last month, will remain a starter on right-flank but the club wants to buy Davies to compete with Fran Garcia for the left-back spot.
Davies’ contract runs out in 2025 and Bayern are not just willing to offer a new contract, they are also giving high wages but the Canadian has not yet made a decision.
Earlier, The Athletic reported that Real Madrid have decided to part ways with French left-back Ferland Mendy whose contract is set to expire in 2025.
Mendy signed for Real Madrid in 2019 for a fee of around €48m from Lyon and he has, since then, been one of the club’s most important players as the 28-year-old played a crucial role in league victories and memorable UEFA Champions League triumph in 2022.
Despite his importance to the club, Mendy’s time at the Spanish capital was highly affected by injuries which made him miss 60 matches in five years at the club, according to Transfermarkt.com
Since Mendy’s contract is ending in 2025, Madrid will not offer him a renewal and will look to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free.
