Real Madrid will host Sevilla FC in their 26th match of La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday and they will be without seven players.
Madrid are on top of the league with 62 points, six more than second-placed Girona, whom they thrashed on February 10 by four goals. Meanwhile, Sevilla sit on the 15th position with 24 points.
Los Blancos will miss Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Jude Bellingham, Joselu Mato, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Carvajal.
Courtois, Militao and Alaba have long-term injuries as all three players tore their Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) earlier this season. On the other hand, Bellingham has an ankle sprain which will keep him out for a few more weeks.
Joselu too did not train with the team on Friday due to ankle pain and was ultimately ruled out for three weeks. Meanwhile, Carvajal and Camavinga will miss the match as the former received a direct red card during last week’s match against Vallecano while the latter completed five bookings in the league, which resulted in one match suspension.
Remember, Madrid will welcome a familiar face at the Bernabeu as their former captain and one of the club’s greatest legends of all time, Sergio Ramos, will return to his previous home for the first time since leaving the club in 2021.
Ramos had a distinguished career at Real Madrid, amassing 671 appearances, scoring 101 goals, and securing numerous trophies, including four UEFA Champions League titles.
The 37-year-old departed the Merengues as a free agent in 2021, moving to PSG, where he spent two years before returning to Spain last summer by joining Sevilla.
“I’m going to feel at home because I’ve spent so many years there, with the most important moments of my career and I have wonderful memories of the fans and my teammates. It will be a unique and emotional moment,” Ramos said on his return to the Bernabeu.
As Ramos prepares to make his comeback to the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid is reportedly preparing a special tribute for their former captain.
It will be nothing short of what Ramos deserves, considering he dedicated 16 years of his best to the club and played a crucial role in the team's achievements.
