Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered yet another injury on his right knee during a training session at Real Madrid City, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Los Blancos held their first training session of the week after the players left for the international break. Courtois was participating in his recovery program alongside Eder Militoa and David Alaba.
The Belgian goalkeeper injured his right knee, tearing his internal meniscus which will probably require surgery.
"After the tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a torn internal meniscus in his right knee. The injury occurred during today's training session,” the club stated in a brief press release.
With the latest injury, Courtois is set to spend another two months on the sidelines as the Belgian’s current season is over without having played a single match.
The club doctors are still discussing whether to go for surgery or not but as of now, everything indicates that after having surgery on his left knee, the Belgian will have to undergo an operation on his right knee.
Remember, Courtois suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear on his left knee in a training session at the beginning of the season after which he spent the last eight to nine months on the sidelines.
He was expected to be fit for the crucial phase of the season where Real Madrid will take on Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final.
The latest setback will surely affect Carlo Ancelotti, who was counting on the Belgian’s return as he is not just rated by the Italian but is also considered a leader inside the dressing room,
Andriy Lunin will continue being Madrid’s starting goalkeeper in Courtois’ injury as the Ukrainian won the favour of Ancelotti after being benched by Kepa Arrizabalaga earlier this season.
