Many player have not participated in domestic cricket events of late

Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq has identified the problem with the Pakistan cricket team as they have failed to qualify for the Super 8 in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Misbah believes that the main issue is current national players not participating in the domestic cricket events of Pakistan and only playing cricket during international tours or foreign leagues.

“The most important thing is the resources we need. You form your strategy by examining your resources and to produce the resources we need to develop the process from the ground up,” the former captain stated while talking on a local sports channel.

“Then the next most important thing is that whenever there are domestic events be it First Class, One-Day or T20 tournaments, regardless of players playing cricket somewhere else or them being big players, they should all be playing domestic cricket,” he added.

It has been a trend of late in Pakistan that players representing Pakistan at the international level do not play in the domestic events of Pakistan.

Misbah added that players often declare themselves unfit or announce that they have a lot of workload after they finish an international tour but as soon as another tour’s camp is set up, the same players are announced fit to play.

“It should not be permitted that as soon as an international tour is over, there are players who are deemed unfit or they have excessive workload so they can not play (in the domestic circuit) right now but as soon as they announce camp of Pakistan cricket team, you are declared fit.

"There are a lot of players in Pakistan’s team that have not participated in a domestic event and it is very important for the players and team to participate in domestic cricket events,” he concluded.
