The third and final ODI between England and Ireland, held in Bristol on Tuesday, was abandoned due to persistent rain.
Despite the weather interruptions, England batter Ben Duckett achieved a significant milestone by scoring his maiden century in the 50-over format.
As a result of the no-result at the Gloucestershire Cricket Stadium, England secured a 1-0 series victory against Ireland. The first ODI had been abandoned without a single ball bowled due to rain, while the second ODI saw England triumph with a 48-run win, inspired by Rehan Ahmed.
Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl, with England's opening pair, Phil Salt and Will Jacks, making a strong start by amassing 87 runs together. After the dismissal of both openers by Irish fast bowler Craig Young in quick succession, Ben Duckett, unbeaten at 107, and captain Zak Crawley accelerated the scoring, forming a 101-run partnership in just 85 deliveries, propelling England past 200 in under 23 overs.
Zak Crawley departed after scoring 51, and Craig Young claimed his third wicket by dismissing Sam Hain for 17 runs. However, just as England was making progress, a downpour brought an abrupt end to the game, with England at 280/4. Play was officially called off less than an hour later.
“A real shame today. We were going towards a good score and it was a good summer, nice to get this award,” England’s Jacks said after being named the Player of the Series.
“(Salt) made it easy for me today, he got off to a flying start. If we could’ve got going it could’ve been a flying start.”
England took field with their second-string XI in this series as main players were rested before the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India next month. England will defend their title. England's campaign begins with a match against New Zealand on October 5th.
