Things are not going very well for Chelsea on the field and the same can be said about their off-the-field affairs as their primary target for the January transfer window, Victor Osimhen, is open to renewing his contract with Napoli, reported 90min on Thursday.
Osimhen’s relationship with the Italian club was tested greatly earlier this season when the club posted an inappropriate video on their TikTok account mocking the African striker.
The incident wasn’t tolerated by the 24-year-old’s camp as his agent even threatened to take legal action but all of that is now in the past as the African striker has not just agreed to sign the contract, but also to the inclusion of a release clause of £112m.
While Chelsea are completely aware of Osimhen’s ongoing talks with Napoli, their plans to lure the striker to the North London club in the summer don’t change, the report added.
Osimhen recently opened up on the controversy where he confirmed that he has never had any issue with the club or its president Aurelio De Laurentis.
“I was not treated badly by Napoli or De Laurentiis. I’m sorry to say this word, but it was a stupid error from somebody who thought he could use a thing like that to joke at a crucial moment. I was certainly not happy, but De Laurentiis, his son Edoardo, and many at the club have supported me.
"They explained the situation, and even the person responsible for it was really nice to me. That was the most important thing. I spoke to that person and he proved to be deeply sorry. Everything has been solved, so I am happy with them. Now I look to the future to leave it behind. This story belongs to the past."
Osimhen was Napoli's most important player last season as the 24-year-old netted 22 league goals in Serie A and helped the club win their first league title in 34 years.
