Casper Ruud began his Australian Open 2024 campaign with a comfortable three-set win against Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-3, and 6-1 at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Ruud’s enjoyable win over the Spaniard saw him making his way to the second round of the first slam of 2024.

After the match, the Norwegian was asked what he plans to do since the match ended in three sets and he will still have plenty of time for the remainder of the day.

Ruud stated that he had a Zoom call waiting because he was buying a new house and would be required to choose from different designs.

“In the end we are humans as well, so we have things to deal with. Currently I got a new place last year and I have to do some renovating,” Ruud said. “The only fitting time was tonight at 10 p.m., so there's going to be a Zoom call that I have to get on to decide a few different materials and so on.

“But it's actually something I enjoy. My mother is an interior designer, as well, so ever since I was young I was quite into it. I've done a few projects in the past back home in Norway. This is for my own personal use."

Ruud added that as a professional, you are not just enjoying life by playing different sports but there are so many things they have to take care of in their little spare time.

“We have other things we do, as well. I mean, I like to try to stay in the zone in the Grand Slam, but just a 30-minute call in one evening shouldn't be a problem,” Ruud said. “I'm looking forward to it. It's small things that we do outside the tennis court that can be, in a way, helping when you're playing.”

Ruud will hope to enjoy successful home renovation planning before taking on Australian Max Purcell on Thursday.
