One of the greatest wrestlers of all time, John Cena, dropped hints and addressed his WWE future in a recent interview.
Cena achieved a remarkable 16-time world champion status before successfully transitioning to a Hollywood career.
Cena's WWE comeback in September at WWE Superstar Spectacle in India marked his return to the ring, teaming up with Seth Rollins for a tag team showdown. Subsequently, Cena entered into a heated rivalry with The Bloodline and teamed up with LA Knight for a face-off at Fastlane. The latest chapter in Cena's in-ring journey unfolded at WWE Crown Jewel 2023.
“I turned 47 this past year and I don’t have much time left in the WWE. You know, I’m trying to figure out when to close that chapter. I wouldn’t be who I am — professionally or personally — without the WWE, and I promised myself that I would never simply just be there for my own sake. Every time I perform, I want to give my all to the audience," Cena said in an interview with PEOPLE interview.
“And I’ve got to admit when I hit the 45 mark, I had to begin to try to form an exit strategy and I’m trying to work on that currently. I just want to do what’s best for the company. If it’s a big final match or if it’s just a final match, or however I can be integrated into the product to let everyone know that this chapter is over, I’m willing to listen to what WWE has to say," he added.
Following his last match at WWE Crown Jewel 2023, John Cena experienced a decisive loss to Solo Sikoa, who executed 11 Samoan Spikes. This defeat marked Cena's most significant setback since SummerSlam 2014, where he faced Brock Lesnar and endured 16 German suplexes. Cena bid a near-tearful farewell to fans after the Crown Jewel match.
Post the defeat at Crown Jewel, Cena hinted at retirement and has not appeared on WWE TV since. Despite his absence, no official announcement about hanging up his boots has been made.
With Royal Rumble 2024 and WrestleMania 40 season on the horizon, fans eagerly await to see if Cena will make a comeback. The WWE universe holds its breath, anticipating whether the iconic superstar will grace the ring once more.
