India named their squad for the fifth and final Test of the series against England on Thursday.
KL Rahul, whose participation was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the fifth Test in Dharamsala.
The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring Rahul and coordinating with specialists in London for further management of his issue.
Meanwhile, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was released from the squad for the fourth Test in Ranchi, will join his teammates in Dharamsala.
Washington Sundar has been dropped from the squad and will join Tamil Nadu for their Ranji Trophy semi-final clash against Mumbai, starting March 2, 2024. He will join the India squad after the completion of the domestic fixture for the fifth Test, if need be.
The BCCI also provided an update on Mohammad Shami, who successfully underwent a surgery on February 26, 2024 for his right heel problem.
“He [Shami] is recovering well and will soon head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation process,” the BCCI stated.
India defeated England by five wickets in the fourth Test of the series after a close finish at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Monday.
Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten fifty, while chasing a target of 192 runs, to lead India to victory. India reached the target in the second session on day four of the contest.
It must be noted that India have an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.
The fifth and final Test is scheduled in Dharamsala from March 7.
