West Indies' batter Shai Hope thinks T20 World Cup on home soil is an amazing chance for West Indies to retain their lost glory.
The Men in Maroon have won two T20 World Cup titles, one in 2012 and the other in 2016. They became the first team to win two T20 World Cups at that time.
Only one other team has two titles and that is England. They won their first in 2010 and second in 2022.
Since they won the tournament in 2016 after Carlos Brathwaite’s last-over heroics of four sixes to Ben Stokes in the final against England, the West Indies have been on an international decline.
"I don't really want to say back to the top. I want to say get to the top because I don't want to live in the past all the time. I would love to see us be the dominant force again around the world. I want West Indies to be looked at as an example for the other teams around the world again," he added while talking on a Delhi Capitals (DC) podcast on Monday.
Hope also revealed that it is his dream to win a World Cup, “Personally, I really want to win a World Cup. That was a dream of mine growing up for years, and it hasn't changed. I don't think it will ever change. And 2024 is a perfect opportunity to do so.”
West Indies begun their T20 World Cup journey with a thrilling win against Papua New Guinea on June 1 at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
They will play their next games against Uganda on June 8, New Zealand on June 12 and Afghanistan on June 17.
