Pakistan women’s team lose ODI series against New Zealand

The final match of the series will be played on Monday

New Zealand defeated Pakistan by one wicket to clinch the women's ODI series on Friday in Christchurch. 

With the win, the home side have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The final ODI will be played on Monday at the same venue. 

Chasing a target of 221 runs, New Zealand reached home with seven balls to spare but lost nine wickets in the process.

The home side were on course for a convincing win after reaching 155-2 with Suzie Bates and Maddy Green's 142-run partnership becoming New Zealand's third-highest 3rd-wicket partnership in women's ODIs. 

However, Pakistan made an impressive comeback with a flurry of wickets as they reduced New Zealand to 208-9. But Lea Tahuhu, 21 runs in 26 balls, held her nerves towards the end to help her side get over the line. 

Earlier, Pakistan were dismissed for 220 runs in 50 overs. The visitors were 35-4 at one stage but Fatima Sana, who was leading Pakistan in the absence of Nida Dar, scored an unbeaten 90 to get her side to a respectable total. She smashed seven fours and a six. 

Natalia Pervaiz added 39, meanwhile Najiha Alvi scored 32 runs. 

Sophie Devine claimed three wickets, whereas Molly Penfold and Fran Jonas bagged two each.
