Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star Kylian Mbappe emerged as one of the options for FC Barcelona for next season as the Frenchman’s current deal is about to end in June 2024, reported Mundo Deportivo on Monday.
Mbappe, who signed a two-year deal with an option for a further season in 2022, will not trigger the clause to extend the deal till 2025 and there may be a bidding war for the 25-year-old striker in the coming days.
The 2018 World Cup winner will be free to negotiate with any club from January 1, 2024, as any player is allowed to have talks with his potential future club once six months are left in the current contract.
The Catalan club is exploring the opportunity to bring the Parisian to the club on a free deal in the summer. However, even a free deal remains too good to be true as Mbappe’s massive salary plus signing bonus would become an apparent problem for the club.
As Barcelona are considering the signing of Mbappe, their arch-rivals, Real Madrid have already decided to make one last offer to Mbappe and give him a deadline of 15 days to respond.
Madrid will not accept any answer other than a signature on the contract from the PSG star as they have no intention of dragging this deal for six months when it could be done in 15 days.
It is worth mentioning that Barcelona’s problems increased when a report from German news outlet Welt emerged earlier stating that the Blaugrana could be banned from the UEFA Champions League (UCL) u to three years.
Barca’s balance sheets are a mess which is no secret to anyone and despite that Blaugrana announced a net profit of €304 million in September which opened the discussion of possible penalties as, according to UEFA’s financial regulations, only transactions that were derived from football business can be counted.
