Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has been sidelined since December 2022 following a nasty car crash but the 26-year-old’s return may just be around the corner.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is likely to be the event where Pant will make his much-awaited comeback.
While there has been no confirmation if Pant will feature in the IPL 2024, rumours have spread since the 26-year-old appeared in a Delhi Capitals (DC) camp in November and spent time with the players while also having discussions about the retention and release of players during the auction.
One of DC’s top officials, PKSV Sagar broke silence on the matter saying he is recovering well and everyone is hoping to be fit by March so a decision on his participation can be made.
"Yes, we are hoping for the best we can expect that he will play this season. He is the biggest player...if he plays then it will be good for us. Our coaches and physio are doing work on him and the best part is this he is recovering very well. We hope by March he will fit and play for us," Sagar told ANI in ILT20.
It is worth mentioning that it took Pant 40 days to start walking after the horrific accident where he sustained multiple injuries. He also keeps on updating his social media accounts with the routine gym work.
Pant played his last international match in December 2022 during the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Mirpur.
He was replaced by Ishan Kishan in T20Is as a wicketkeeper while in 50-over cricket, KL Rahul took over his role and has been playing since then.
It must be noted that Pant was one of the most important players of the Indian cricket team prior to the car crash across all formats. He captained India's T20I side against South Africa in June 2022 and was also named in the Men's Test Team of the Year 2021 for his fantastic performances throughout the year
