Novak Djokovic is currently taking a rest from tennis after suffering his first-ever Australian Open semi-final defeat at the hands of Jannik Sinner, who ultimately clinched the championship.
The Serb started his 2024 campaign after winning three Grand Slams — Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open — in 2023 and was aiming to extend his major tally to 25.
However, his hopes were tarnished after a disappointing semi-final defeat against Sinner where the Serb failed to make a break point in the entire match.
Djokovic looked broke after the match and confirmed in a presser that he would be taking a break for some time.
“Let’s see how things will unfold in the future,” Djokovic said. “I want my thoughts to settle – when I calm down, I will move on and see what tournaments I will play.”
“I made a commitment to myself that I will give it my all this year, with the priority being Slams and the Olympics.
“We’ll see whether something will change, in this stage of my life and my career some surprising decisions are maybe more expected compared to twenty years ago.”
Djokovic will turn 37 but he has not yet indicated at taking retirement as the Serb is still motivated enough to win one or more slams.
